We all know how easy it is to quote a Bible verse. It is harder, and much more faithful, to read it well. In this series, we will look at familiar Scripture passages that are often misused or misunderstood—not phrases people think are in the Bible, but actual passages that are sometimes taken out of context, turned into slogans, or used in ways that miss the heart of the text.
Each week, we will focus on one commonly misunderstood passage and learn a larger lesson about reading Scripture faithfully. We will ask better questions: What is this passage really saying? Who was it first written to? What problem was it addressing? What have we left out? How does the wider witness of Scripture shape our understanding? And perhaps most importantly, what is God trying to form in us as we read?
This series is about becoming more careful, humble, and faithful readers of the Bible. We will practice listening for what Scripture actually says, allowing it to search us, shape us, correct us, comfort us, and lead us more deeply into the way of Christ.
