Around 1998, Ann Fort, recently retired, discovered a new passion in her life: serving the people of Kenya. For over 25 years, she led 19 different mission trips to Kenya, improving schools, building homes and churches, and working with her Kenyan neighbors to build a better life. Even though our dear Ann is now gone, at Hope UMC, we seek to keep this tradition alive.

After a COVID-related hiatus, Hope travelled back to Kenya in the summer of 2026 to help complete two new homes, participate in a medical mission camp, distribute medicine to school children, and renew relationships with families and organizations around Meru, Kenya.

The Blessing of Showing Up In Kenya (Hope Mission 2026): Part 1

After seven years apart, a team from Hope United Methodist Church returned to Kenya in July 2026 to reconnect with longtime partners, serve alongside local communities, and continue relationships that have grown over more than 25 years. The Blessing of Showing Up in Kenya is a four-part series sharing the people, places, work, and experiences that made the journey so meaningful.

The Blessings of Showing Up in Kenya (Hope Mission 2026): Part 2

In Part 2 of The Blessing of Showing Up in Kenya, our report from Hope UMC’s July 2026 mission trip, meet Bishop Catherine and join us as we visit the Methodist Treatment and Rehabilitation Centre in Meru that she founded and directs; three elementary schools, where we distributed medicine and gifts to more than 300 joyful students and teachers; and a rural medical clinic that served more than 500 people. Throughout these experiences, we had the privilege of working alongside Kenyans serving their communities. Read more here.

The United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR) is the humanitarian relief and development arm of The United Methodist Church. UMCOR responds to natural and human-caused disasters—such as famine, floods, fires, hurricanes, and war—bringing relief, long-term recovery, and hope to vulnerable communities. It equips churches and partners with training and resources to strengthen disaster response, supports migrants with legal and humanitarian aid, and advocates globally for justice and compassion.

Center for Health and Hope
Focused on Global HIV & AIDS

The Center for Health and Hope advocates for people impacted by HIV and AIDS through education, prevention, care, and treatment programs locally and globally. Founded in 2000 by Dr. Donald Messer, the Center partners with faith communities to respond with compassion rather than condemnation, and also stands in solidarity with the LGBTQ+ community in the pursuit of justice and human rights. Hope UMC proudly hosts the Center’s annual Gathering to HEAL fundraiser, supporting scholarships and humanitarian projects in Kenya and beyond.
