Clayton M. Hill IV Memorial Music Award
Clayton was a graduate of Cherry Creek High School and CSU. He completed a double major in Computer Information Systems and Business and graduated in 4 years in 1991.
The Hill family joined Hope in 1980 where he was baptized and confirmed. As a young adult, he taught a 3rd grade Sunday school class, served on the Finance committee and helped set up the 1st computer system for the Hope office. When he moved back to Ft. Collins for work in 1994, finding a church was a priority. He was in the process of joining Christ UMC. The church fed his spiritual soul.
Although computers were his vocation, he learned to love music from a very special relationship with his Grandfather. The two of them were soul mates sharing hours listening to many genres of music.
The Clayton Hill IV Memorial Fund was established in 1994 to honor Clay and Kathy Hill’s son Clayton IV and his love of music. Monetary awards are given each year to members of the Hope Church family who are pursuing or intend to pursue their lifelong interest in music. Funds can be used for undergraduate, post-graduate or professional development.

Walter Hyler Memorial Arts Scholarship
Walt Hyler was a research engineer in his career and after retiring he studied working with clay as a hobby. He took college courses, many workshops, researched books, and constantly experimented with different types of clay firings. Over the years he became proficient making beautiful clay sculptures, large vases and wall hangings. His work was accepted and sold in galleries in Colorado and Santa Fe, New Mexico.
Walt came to Hope Church in 1980 and it became a very special place for him. One of the things for which he was well known, was to make a lovely sculpture to be presented as a gift to a retiring pastor. Walt Hyler was 92 when he died. He loved all the arts and was on the Visual Arts team at church. He participated in selecting the wood sculpture mounted high in the Narthex of the church as you enter. He also had the Chagall prints framed and hung, that grace the Narthex.
The objective of this Memorial Scholarship is to provide financial aid, in the form of $500, to a Hope Methodist youth who is interested in pursuing a degree in the visual arts – sculpture, clay, painting, photography, graphic arts, etc.
Walt Hyler was a master in clay sculpture. To honor his memory donations were given to Hope Church to establish this scholarship. The scholarship committee welcomes applications from all interested youth entering college or already in college. Preference will be given to youth who are or have been active in Hope Church.
